Although Precision Helicopters Hokitika is a new family run business to the West Coast, the company’s main base is located in Taranaki and has been operating for over 20 years. We believe this aircraft is the tidiest of her kind in New Zealand. With a bright red picture-perfect paint job; ILN is easy to spot, accompanied by new interior for the most comfortable ride and brilliant vision from all seats in the helicopter.


Introducing Matthew Newton, Chief Pilot of PHL, but you can call him Matt. Matt was brought up dry stock farming in North Taranaki as a kid. Matt’s father was a bomber pilot in WW2. His stories of the aviation world triggered Matt’s desire to become a pilot. First with a fixed wing PPL then venturing into flying helicopters. Thirty years have now gone by since Matt did his helicopter licence, you can feel very safe in has hands with his vast experience operating helicopters. Predominately Matt’s flying career has been in agriculture, the oil industry, supporting New Zealand’s conservation, and search and rescue.


Lillian Newton– When you venture to Hokitika base you will be greeted by Lillian Newton. Lillian was also brought up dry stock farming, she loves the outdoors, training horses and her art which you will see hanging around the office. Lillian is training to be a helicopter pilot, she hopes to be in the pilot seat soon. For now she is taking care of booking’s, social media accounts, loading passengers and any other handy jobs around the office.

Tammy Newton– Tammy wife of Matt and mother of Lillian, is always there to make sure everyone is well prepared. Tammy is a qualified chef and often brings delicious treats to the office. Tammy was brought up in an aviation family – her father flew on Mt Hutt Station as a deer recovery pilot, and her brother is a commercial pilot working around the world.
